National Road Safety Week 2024

A warm welcome to Road Safety Week! This annual event is celebrated to spread awareness around road safety and highlights the measures for establishing a safety culture on our roads. This day is observed every year as a reminder of the mutual responsibility of all to take charge of their own as well as others in safety during travels on roads.

Putting the core emphasis on advocacy, education, awareness and community engagement, Road Safety Week aimed to create mass awareness among road users, thus reducing road accidents and incidents and protecting lives.

As per WHO, nearly 1.19 million people lose their lives every year due to road traffic crashes. On looking into the 2022 Annual Report on ‘Road Accidents in India, 4,61,312 road accidents have been reported by States and Union Territories (UTs), claiming 1,68,491 lives and ending injuries to 4,43,366 persons. These reports shed light on emerging challenges in road safety initiatives.
