One of the greatest inventions of modern times, electricity has become an essential part of humans, without which, life on earth will go powerless and standstill. Generating electricity is a complex process which involves large machinery, resources and huge workforce. As electricity has become lifeline of industries, offices and other small, medium and large enterprises around the world, it assumes greater significance to protect lives from injuries and fatalities caused due to various electricity related accidents and disasters at workplaces.

As electricity-related injuries rank fifth most common cause of occupational fatalities, it becomes highly relevant to follow safety methods, norms and practices to reduce damages and potential dangers and risks to workers who are either directly or indirectly involved with electrical systems. Following proven safety standards at all sorts of occupational environments would not only reduce injuries and fatalities but also enhance industries to improve productivity.

For electrical industry, safety is the major criteria and regulations and codes that define safe practices are both complicated and diverse. Employers of production units, electrical system designers, electricians, engineers, inspectors and architects should follow all necessary safety standards prescribed by the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E and OSHA.
